Like so many cities around the nation, the cities in Cobb County decided to call off all big public gatherings, parades, and firework displays this holiday due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The city of Kennesaw decided to postpone the public celebration and firework display until September 12th, so there may still be fireworks for Kennesaw residents happening this year! But amid all the cancellations there are still some good options for celebrating the day, including fireworks still happening in downtown Woodstock!

  1.  The City of Marietta is having a Patriotic Decorating Contest for residents, businesses, and neighborhoods. There is also a patriotic pet photo contest. Send in a photo of your Patriotic display or patriotic pet to City of Marietta on their website.  The deadline to enter is Tuesday, June 30th at 5pm.
  2. The City of Powder Springs is hosting a virtual celebration and a drive-by parade on July 4th.  There will be patriotic videos posted online throughout the day and city officials and city vehicles will participate in a drive-by parade.  More information here.
  3. The City of Woodstock (Cherokee County) is still hosting its regular firework display for the public.  The city decided that the layout planned to view the event would allow for people to spread out enough to have the recommended physical distancing. The event will take place at dusk on Saturday, July 4th. Address: Woodstock Square, 8964 Alabama Road, Woodstock. More information here.
  4. A Capitol Fourth, a virtual concert event from Washington, DC, will air on PBS from 8:00pm-9:30pm on Saturday July 4th. The concert will be a tribute to Frontline Workers in the fight against the pandemic, African American Heroes, and Wounded Warriors. The performances are pre-taped or highlights from past years.
  5. Of course, you can always celebrate the day with a patriotic picnic or a good ol’ fashioned cook-out with your family or the ones you love.

Have a fun, happy, and safe 4th of July!!!
